I am a medical student at the University of Bristol, entering my third year in September 2019. During my 8 week Biomedical Vacation Scholarship, sponsored by the Wellcome Trust, I will study the ways in which cytoskeletal elements interact during the production of mammalian oocytes, in addition to the role of actin in healthy embryo formation post-fertilisation. I hope to gain laboratory experience beyond that which is offered by my undergraduate degree, which will be invaluable in the future should I choose to pursue clinical research. I am also keen to make a contribution to research that could eventually lead to life-changing clinical interventions, such as the prevention of oocyte aneuploidy.
