Alicia Pilcher MSci Student
I am a Biochemistry MSci student at the University of Bristol, currently in my final year of study. I am undertaking a 14 week research project, studying the actin cytoskeleton in mouse oocytes and its role in driving correct chromosome segregation. Specifically, my project will focus on an actin-microtubule crosslinking protein, characterising its requirement in spindle actin assembly. This project is not only a chance for me to build on my current lab skills, but it is also a chance for me to develop novel, complex technical skills. I hope to gain confidence in techniques such as oocyte harvesting, high resolution live and immunofluorescence microscopy, quantitative image analysis, and functional domain mapping.
